Lack of foresight and planning

Pros

The projects one gets to work on at PlayShifu are interesting and exciting. The employees here are passionate, driven, helpful and uplifting. Their zeal prompts inspiration and quality in the products being created; a fun lot to work amongst.

Cons

PlayShifu feels like a sinking ship that's only managing to stay afloat because of young and passionate employees. The upper management lacks foresight. After handing out raises and promotions, a subset of the same group of people were forced to take sabbaticals and some were laid off. This was the second set of lay offs in the same year. Poor planning. PlayShifu fails to strike a balance in prioritization of quality where the products are concerned. There seems to be no feasible plan to how their aspirational goals will be achieved. There are also team leads who will go on wild power trips, manipulate and gaslight, issue empty threats, and pick on people. No action will be taken against these leads. They will continue to thrive.

It's all a facade

Pros

You get to work with a bunch of passionate, kind, and empathetic people.

Cons

Going by the company's social media pages, you'd think it's doing quite well. Well, what they haven't said is that there have been substantial layoffs and forced sabbaticals in the last month. There was a month's notice for layoffs but no severance. For people asked to take unpaid sabbaticals, there wasn't even a month's notice. Having been told that there wasn't enough work, the last month of notice was spent doing tons of work by the people laid off. The whole affair was handled terribly by the company. It lacked empathy and good judgement. Apart from this, there are people in management positions who are toxic, traumatic, prone to gaslighting, and upper management has been made aware of it. What they did was absolutely nothing about it.

Manipulative and Liars

Pros

The only pro this company has you that you maybe lucky enough to work with passionate folks who the upper management tricks into hiring for cruelly low salaries.

Cons

The top management are liars. I've juggled multiple roles and pulled off 30+ game projects in 1.5 years and they paid me peanuts. They lied and manipulated me with false promises (read- Bread Crumbing) and did not give me an appraisal for more than 2 years despite me juggling multiple roles. Do not join this company, for this will exploit you and your passion and awareness of gaming industry and throw you out.
