Pros

Benefits are ok and pay is above minimum. Not by much

Cons

Nepotism is vampant, getting to actually use vacation time when you want, good luck. And be prepared to feel like a child asking for a dr note if you are ever sick. Even if you are over qualified for a different position, if you are not related to someone you won’t be even looked at. The union does nothing to help employees other then make you feel good about a 1% raise. Thus not even cost of living. They county acts like they aren’t making money, but does any one question how much fluff money the board of supervisors has?

Nepotism Taken to a New Level

Pros

The salaries & benefits are way above market average (which should be maddening to tax payers).

Cons

I've worked for other government agencies before but never experienced nepotism to this degree. As far as I can tell very few employees are actually qualified for their jobs - most notably department heads and other high level managers. It's all about who you know unfortunately. As a result these leaders are able to get away with murder, so to speak, and display flagrant favoritism to their friends and family. Many leaders are unprofessional, micro-managing, territorial and lazy. Employees spend their day worrying more about inter-office politics than doing actual work. I am ambitious, creative and hard-working but I am told to "stay in my lane" more often than not. This environment is not for anyone looking to actually be fulfilled by their work.
