Pros

Some of the most wonderful and intelligent people I have ever worked with. In the beginning (prior to being swallowed up by Powerschool), people surrounding you were enthusiastic and proud of the work being done. You could learn from one another and the energy was high. Good times, good product, and good friends. The talent was incredible and the pride showed throughout. Even when the acquisition hit, people made every attempt to carry that pride and enthusiasm with them and show Powerschool that the true success came from within.

Cons

Powerschool couldn't have cared less about the people the acquired along with the products. Morale sunk to all time lows. Good people were dumped immediately. Jobs were sent to India. And then came the continuous carousel of management. Doors started to shut, and the secrecy began. whispers started, and people disappeared. Each week, another amazing and talented person was gone. No more open door policy. Prices were driven up and fingers were being pointed. Where once a proud company stood - a sad shell now exists.

The only loyalty they have is to the bottom line; employees don't matter

Pros

The only true "pro" are the exceptional people you work with, for as long as they can hold out or get replaced by a cheaper offshore alternative. Little niceties such as free coffee, soda, and 'spirit events' are supposed to make you feel valued. Unlimited DTO is there, if your manager will let you use it. Insurance - HDHP $4000 deductible for employee & spouse.

Cons

Anyone that leaves or is let go is replaced offshore (India) - there are very very few development area jobs available in the US, even customer support is being pushed there; the time zone, education and language barriers make it extremely difficult to be productive or put out quality work. Internal processes are developed and pushed without regard for the team or product needs or input, lack of testing and little to no notice - basically it's - here's a new process, use it. And process change is never ending. Reviews - unless you go WAY over and above, you are 'average'. Bonuses - previous year's bonus isn't provided until end of March. Being professional doesn't count for anything - giving notice 2 weeks prior to the bonus nullifies your receipt of it, even when you've provided a huge amount of knowledge transfer prior to departure. You're better off keeping your mouth shut, getting the bonus, and quitting on the spot. They say they 'value their employees', but that's as truthful as saying they care about their customer service. They simply suck at both. The bottom line is all that matters. I guess that's what happens when you're owned by 2 vulture capital companies.
