Company without a Future

Pros

Great product, amazing people (mostly), great office location next to Sarona and generous Tembis. The product itself is great and has so much potential, with the right leadership Powtoon could be a huge company.

Cons

No leadership in terms of sales, marketing and product. One department doesn't know what the other is doing. No clear direction or plan for the future. CEO's ego drives poor decision making allowing for the best people to leave for other opportunities.

Pros

the potential of the company The heart of the existing employees. Not management.

Cons

Sadly, almost everything.. It starts with a none functioning management... the entire C level is not performing. none of them is in control of their domain, and they are always putting sticks in wheels for other departments. There is no employee growth or investments in employees. it starts with very low salaries in comparison to the market, and it ends with the fact only employees are blamed for the fact that the company is not succeeding. The roadmap of the company is ancient and follows visions from almost 10 years ago. Each department is not aligned to any of the other departments, which results with a very very slow development rate and the services ability to compete in Powtoon's domain. Furthermore, the benefits for employees are only being reduced year by year. There are a few people that are there to stay which are hurting the company on purpose to serve their own agendas. Influential employees are not helping the company, and furthermore, are causing a mess and hurt new people.

Thank you for your constructive feedback. We wholeheartedly agree that the hearts of employees is one of the factors that makes Powtoon so special. As for your other concerns and as with any fast paced, growing company, our leadership team is working to become more aligned within their departments and across the company. Rapidly growth is always accompanied by ‘growing pains’ but we are no different to any company on the journey to Unicorn. We read the comment about growth opportunities and actually must point out that we have invested more in 2020 in employee development than previously and likewise as we move into 2021 we have earmarked more budget for growth enablement as a % of revenue than perhaps most other companies with a similar financial status. As for recognition we have started regular employee reviews, we have set up ‘employee of the month’ sessions and we very publicly honour our workforce and those individuals who trailblaze through the company. It is not factual that employees are not receiving the recognition that they deserve. Salaries are benchmarked regularly and we try our hardest to remain competitive in the marketplace. As a company that has grown ‘bootstrapped’ we have taken the view to build a unicorn in a smart, robust way that will provide long term success and financial stability. We always take an “employee first” approach. During Covid not one member of staff was furloughed and not a single employee benefit got reduced. We are pleased to report that this mentality took us through Covid and we were in fact one of the few companies to increase revenue and profitability because of how we work. We as a company take on board the various other points and rather than respond with several more paragraphs invite you to come and meet senior management where we can understand more and also respond in a more direct and positive manner. Please contact: Avia.messer@powtoon.com We wish you the best of luck on your professional journey!

Pros

Nothing I can think off

Cons

This is a failed startup company that recruits employees without giving them the tools to work, while endless quarrels between management and team leaders, job demands are illogical, and the whims of terrible team leaders are not recommended at all as a workplace. The conduct of the HR is terrible too, and from the moment you are no longer their "cup of tea", you are air. BTW: There are NO bonuses in this company, the management doesn't believe in it. They won't tell it to you unless you specifically ask.

We’re sad to read your review and hear about your experience. Given the growth of the company over the last 48 months we must respond clearly that the term ‘failed startup’ is factually incorrect. We are one of the fastest growing companies in our space and that is something that we are proud of. That said, we take all feedback from employees seriously and though we may disagree with some of the points, we never dismiss them. As we grow we experience, like all startups ‘growing pains’ but we battle those head on. Senior management are provided constant training and likewise we ensure we are building the management infrastructure to ensure we as a company achieve our goals. We do work in a dynamic and fast paced environment and that is not necessarily a ‘good fit’ for all those employees who join us but that said our retention rates are some of the best in the industry. Lastly we do not operate a policy of requesting employees to write positive reviews - if we did we would drown out the negative ones and it is only from those that we learn how and where to improve. Thank you for sharing your experience and we wish you the best of luck!
