Pros

Clients. Knowing you are working to serve a valuable need.

Cons

The sad contradiction in this organization is the controlling micro manager who believes in continually brow beating all nonattorney employees.. Why do they let this continue? I am not the first highly educated employee, nor the last, that has experienced the ineffective destructive management style at PSLS. The organization will never progress to be all it can be without uniting the employees on a common mission to serve....and it will not happen under the current management. A shame since it is an organization that serves those most in need....and will never do so effectively with the current status quo.

Pros

They have a great training program for new attorneys

Cons

My managing attorney was a stereotypical micro-manager. She was controlling, egotistical, and hyper-critical. I envy the person who said he/she had flexible hours. My managing attorney kept a book in her desk drawer where she kept track of anytime the staff attorneys were late for work, though she showed no appreciation when I committed 60 hour weeks to my more involved cases. She would constantly pick on me, to the point that three years later my confidence in my ability to represent my clients is still shaky. I'd hear her on the phone to the Executive Director, telling lies about me and my work. She had replaced an equally awful managing attorney, who had been allowed to torture the staff attorneys in her own special way.

Pros

Chance to met a number of varied clients with different civil legal issues.

Cons

Poor pay, arrogant management, unreasonable work loads, little recognition for work well done. A legal sweat shop that demands 100% all the time yet in return you get nothing but criticism, "not good enough" and made to feel like you are so lucky to have a job in this crumb hole.
