Pros

Great non-traditional benefits (gym memberships, massages, summer fridays, etc.) Excellent culture Wonderful philanthropy program Has, in the past, attracted wonderful people, many of which I’m grateful to know.

Cons

- Your experience will vary wildly depending on what department you are in. - The company IPOed last year, so whatever great aspects of working there you’ve heard about, they are likely on their way out if not already gone. - People are not valued in any meaningful way. - There are a ton of politics. If you can play the game, great, but just know that you will likely inadvertently insult some other department until you get a handle on the intricacies, though it will continue to be a source of anxiety throughout your time there. It’s a bit tribal and really clashes with the concept of the company being a cohesive team that works to lift each other up. - Incompetent managers face little to no correction. Specific to R&D: Perhaps you’ve seen a number of positions opening up in this department. This is because in the last year or so, the team has almost completely turned over. Employees have been either fired, pushed out, or had their lives made so miserable that they’ve found new jobs *in a pandemic*. I believe the body count currently is around 12 people. 12!! In a year and a half!! Not sure at what point the CEO will realize that the individual contributors weren’t the problem. If you like to be subjected to low rent, wannabe Ted talks, and be shouted at that the team is a family, while at the same time morale is absolutely decimated, by all means! Expect to be treated like a technician without a brain of your own. Expect to watch your team members be over-the-top praised to their face, then have the same person question their competence to you behind their back. Expect constant negative feedback under the guise of it being for your benefit. Frankly, expect to be fired on a whim! But while being told how hard the decision was for the person firing you. Expect to be told to lie to other departments. A LOT. Expect to be given enough work for three people (bc your teammates keep being fired!) then reprimanded for not being able to execute it well. Perhaps this feels like a hit piece, but I would have appreciated knowing these things going in, and every single one of them happened. On the plus side, I’ve learned what truly awful department leadership looks like, how sycophants perpetuate it for their own benefit, and how managers who are actually very good at their jobs can only do so much to insulate you from it.

I’m sorry your experience overall at the company was negative. It’s important to know that we strive every day to make this the best place to work that we possibly can and take the feedback seriously to improve. While we recognize everyone’s experience will be different, we also think our people overall are having quite a positive experience. A couple points to amplify this are that in 2020 we were rated as the 6th best place to work in our category nationwide by Fortune Magazine using the Great Place to Work anonymous internal survey data of all our employees; and our most recent fiscal year 2020 turnover for all reasons was a mere 8%, which is about one-third of the national average.

Pros

“Flexible Environment”. Ok compensation, good company foundation.

Cons

1. Favoritism 2. Almost impossible expectations 3. Depending on department, can be easy or worse. 4. If you have another option, consider that then. Ever since the company IPO’d, little by little leadership and the direction of the company has changed. 5. Between the unrealistic expectations and the amount politics involved, be sure to always be polite as it will come a long way as you will always upset a department or someone on the extreme decisions that need to be made. Just know that you could have done better than others or arguably the best performer/department and that’s still not enough

Pros

Premier Nutrition is a very forward thinking and feeling company in a lot of ways. You had (pre-covid) free lunch a few days a week, free massages, snacks, fitness classes, gym, etc. That stuff is cool. Upper management always seemed responsive and receptive to feedback. Pay is competitive. A lot of co-workers are just awesome. Made some great long-term friends here.

Cons

Unfortunately all the perks don't mean much if you don't enjoy your team culture and work environment. The operations team likes to hire contracts and I've seen them come and go. I was one of them before I made it to FTE, and they're treated like second-class citizens. They can't attend any company all-hands, they don't get any of the perks listed above, and all this really kills your motivation to excel. When I became FTE, it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. If you're being hired to this company as a temp, I wouldn't recommend it. Other than that, some minor things such as sick days being blended in with your PTO which actively discourages you from taking sick days if you're actually sick.
