Pros
- Strong ownership of the services/products you maintain - Small and focused teams - Great sense of camaraderie - Very easy to pick up a lot of scope and experience - Strong backing from management if you can take ownership of your work - Tangible impact with direct exposure to customers - Management receptive to feedback
Cons
- Lack of established design and engineering processes, slowly being put in place in response to identified issues - No product managers, engineers own the whole product lifecycle (pro for some) - Always tight on headcount - A lot of legacy code that is slowly being tackled
