Toxic and unsustainable in Chicago

Pros

Some very talented and cool people. Free (cheap) beer. Free soda. Free (good) coffee. Free popcorn. Pay is solid. Benefits are top shelf.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. Management confuses bullying for leadership. Overtime is mandatory, for everyone, every single day, including weekends. They have zero respect for their employee's time. There is no work life balance - and I mean none whatsoever. 12-20 hour shifts are standard. People working until 5 in the morning without a break happens every week. People refer to 10 hour shifts as "half days" without irony. You will also not be trained - in anything, ever. You will be shown your job by ten different people who do things ten different ways, leading to massive confusion and mistakes you didn't even know how to avoid. Their internal routing process is 20 years out of date, and filled with inefficient bottlenecks. Employees will sit with nothing to do from 9 AM until 5 PM, and then the work comes through, meaning you'll be there well past midnight. This happens every single week. People working here look sick, because many of them work so many hours that their health falls apart. I can't think of a single person who is happy in their job at this company. Everyone is miserable, overworked, and exhausted. It is a shock every day when everyone comes back to work, rather than simply walking away due to exhaustion. If sleep deprivation, overwork, and alcoholism are your life goals, this is the promised land. If you're a normal human, this is a sweatshop that will grind you up and spit you out after mercilessly exploiting you. Everyone has limitations. If you work here, you will be expected to work well beyond those limitations - regularly. If you don't do so and act happy about it, you will be shamed. If that doesn't work, they will just fire you out of hand and replace you with another hopeful, soon-to-be-burnt-out person, who they will then treat exactly as poorly as they treated you. Run, don't walk, away from this ongoing train wreck.

Just bad!

Pros

The people that I worked with were fun and talented.

Cons

Everything else! From working crazy hours and management making you feel bad about wanting leave after working 15 hours or asking you why you want to take the day off, to management not knowing how to deal with the client. That environment is absolutely toxic. It’s a shame because it could be a great place to work but the people who run it are clueless. I’ve never been a part of something so bad. I never felt so unheard and under appreciated.
