High Turnover, Low Morale

Pros

An overall inspiring mission that has the potential to be great under the right leadership.

Cons

Project Sunshine has a toxic environment that fosters burnout and stress for many employees. Sadly, three employees of color have quit without giving notice. The executive director made one employee of color so miserable that she would quit. The two others quit immediately after comments about racism and DEI were dismissed, and the staff was told we wouldn’t be talking about those topics at a staff meeting. The executive director regularly talks disparagingly about current and past employees. The turnover at this organization, as you might imagine, is high, and morale is low.

Pros

Project Sunshine has a great mission that has the potential to bring a diverse staff together to support it.

Cons

Top leadership lacks emotional intelligence. Lots of turnover over the past year. If you are a person of color-leadership will (unknowingly?) project low standards and stereotype your performance. A staff member asked for feedback after three months and was told they were unwarm and unwelcoming. The review went on to say people didn't want to collaborate with this individual because they didn't feel comfortable/welcomed. This caused the person to resign as they were extremely micromanaged by top leadership. Staff have a tendency to gossip about one another and in turn it projects a culture of fear which causes staff to not express their opinions and beliefs at the appropriate time.
