Disorganised, disrespectful and lacking any leadership or vision

Pros

remote from anywhere i suppose. Some cool tech (not worth the people though)

Cons

Protocol Labs gets by on the massive amounts of money they raised at an ICO. While they have had some great ideas and built some really cool things, it's clear that they do not listen to any idea outside of their own leadership bubble and are becoming a complete echo chamber of themselves - stifling any and all potential innovation just like big corp. Unlike big corp though, they also have a massive scale-up dilemma, complete lack of vision, and no idea how to manage a company or people. Because they have become a Godless cult at the top, they cannot see that they are the problem and that they need to actually grow up, reign in their own ego's and hire and ENABLE people to have control to help them scale up. This will be their downfall. If this was a startup with low money it would be defunct already other than a few folks still doing some cool things on ipfs (which has no real revenue avenue). They also are completely inequitable to women and minorities, have no idea how to manage (other than punitively and without any inclusivity), have no thought to career growth and will bully anyone that doesn't agree with them. They will also work you to breaking and then blame you for burning out.

Pros

Some of the earlier tech was genuinely well guided. There are a few very bright people. The pay and benefits were excellent, and there are some very genuinely nice people.

Cons

PL is now just trend-chasing. There is no good direction. There are hostile employees. There is no respect for academia or people with deep expertise.

Pros

The compensation was somewhat competitive.

Cons

My experience at PL was pretty bad right off the bat. The job I was sold in the 6 hours of interviews was not at all what I was given upon being hired. I was then assigned to a manager whom consistently held my head under the water; they completely ruined my experience and denied me any room for career growth. After months of being drip-fed menial tasks, having my questions or concerns flat out ignored for weeks on end, going through other communication channels, and being denied access to important company resources, I reached out to HR to try and resolve the problems I was facing and nothing changed whatsoever. After 3 months I eventually found out that, two weeks prior, a group had been formed around the task I was to be working on. I learned from an announcement at an all-hands meeting. Nobody even bothered to tell me nor invite me. I handed in my resignation only 3 1/2 months into the position, and nobody at the company even bothered to ask me why I was leaving or where my discontent came from during my offboarding. I just had my permissions revoked, no meeting, no nothing. They are incredibly disorganized, have a clear lack of experience on the management levels, lack diversity, and frankly don't care much about their employee's satisfaction or place in the company. I regard the entire experience as a massive waste of time. Explore options at other blockchain organisations -- I'm now at a new workplace where my time and expertise is actually respected.
