Underwhelming and unprofessional
Pros
General staff were friendly and competent, they got the job done. The company had potential as well as access to parts of the industry few dev houses could go on their own.
Cons
The red flags were everywhere, in the first week the boss had a meltdown in the middle of the office. This became a pattern, especially around a particular employee who was not there to defend themselves (against gossip the boss was spreading about them). The boss had a policy of "last in, first out" which he broke when he made me redundant, I was not the last in at that point, but he rarely kept promises. There was always new work inbound, yet it always fell through at the last moment. For me, it felt like I was set up to fail because I had no existing work or clients and no influence over the projects being discussed. My mental health declined from basically having all these dropped projects and colleagues talking about their frustrations to me, but not really raising them further up. I became a proxy for them to speak to the boss. When I was made redundant, he agreed to a fixed term. I took it as the term was enough to find another job, but he broke the deal by terminating me early and without warning, not being contactable and me having to go over his head to the owning company BLD to get a resolution. I have never been treated so poorly on my way out of a company, just felt like they didn't care, like I didn't matter. This company had/has potential, but management has absolutely no motivation to use it or the talent it employs. It won't even see this review, they just don't care enough.
