Pros

Worked for 3 CEO's. The first was well intentioned and a decent human but inept. The second who I worked with for his entire time was a true leader that was shaping QinetiQ into a progressive organisation that had a clear mission, vision and values and was well on its way to achieving it. I have never seen an organisation transform itself in these 3 years. Working for the previous CEO was without doubt the greatest career experience I have and am likely to have as an employee and has shown me what true leadership can do.

Cons

Distinct (negative) change in culture reflecting change in CEO's. Went from progressive disciplined meritocracy under CEO number 2 with vibrant energy to a loosely run Canberra based boys ex services based boys club (some of whom are/were criminally incompetent yet operated with abandon). In a few months most of the operational gains that had been built in the years prior and discipline that had been built vaporised - talk about own goal...

Pros

Better than being unemployed and that’s about it.

Cons

Worse management any employee will come across. Senior managers are the most toxic in QINETIQ

Pros

Unique opportunities for interesting work given the primary client is the Australian Defence Force

Cons

While there are unique opportunities, they are rare and can be difficult to actually get with the in-fighting and politics in upper management. There is also always talk about expanding into new ventures to widen the type of work we would be doing, unfortunately it is nothing more than empty talk with no attempt made by any of the managers to even explore new types of work. These same managers then wonder why staff are leaving for companies that actually prefer to look outwards. On top of all this, despite all the “assurance” the remuneration is well below market rate and you better be prepared to fight for even a modest pay rise (and don’t expect any pay rise outside the new financial year).
