Burnout is widespread in this company

Pros

Working in healthcare and helping patients can be rewarding. You get to teach yourself a lot about the German employment laws.

Cons

During my years at this company, I watched many members of the team who are not in core leadership develop burn out. The constant barrage of the phrase 'we are a family' is used to push staff to work more and more unpaid overtime while giving them an unmanageable workload. Leadership would contact staff who were signed off sick from work by a doctor to see if they could continue to work from home. I saw a head of team scream at a member of staff in front of the whole open space office. Staff outside of the core leadership are underpaid compared to the rest of the start up market. Bonuses are only for the sales team and they change the bonus system at least once a year and increase the targets month on month to even more difficult levels. The HR department is not equipped to deal with visa processes, work-place accommodations and do not have some of the basic process in place for staff returning to work after sickness, how to deal with in-house bullying and even hygiene and safety issues. The sales team does not receive timely performance reviews, and the career path for how staff could receive promotion was changed over 5 times in the space of 2 years. We were told that no one in the company could take a vacation during January every year, except a staff member in the core leadership team was able to take a 2 week vacation during this time. We were told that all staff could only take off the 24th or 31st December, yet the CEO and COO had both off. COO would often say he could hire replacement staff on even lower salaries. Sales teams are on shift work and this has been between the hours of 8am and Midnight. Monday through to Saturday. These shifts changed every week for you, so its difficult to maintain a decent balance and sleep. The company once a year has a company wide anonymous feedback form for staff to fill in, which they say the CEO and HR reviews before sending your individual feedback. Discriminatory and bullying reviews were often left in and further increased the toxic atmosphere. Management often took off time in the week without using vacation or a sick day to be fit for their weekend and would openly brag about it in the office. Dismissal of staff under the pretence of performance happened several times without any previous warnings or a performance improvement plan. If you are dismissed from the company, they show little care to send the necessary forms to the job centre on time so that you may receive benefits. During the pandemic, there were huge problems with KUG. Often the payment was miscalculated and you would receive less than you should, which would eventually be paid months later and your payslips for those months changed. Many staff on KUG were told to look for other jobs because they had no work to come back to, rather than going through the dismissal process.

Pros

Energetic, friendly and youthful team

Cons

- Highly competitive mentality resulting in a toxic work environment - Unreasonable targets - Unethical practices e.g encouraging patients to book procedures and travel abroad no matter what (despite patient apprehension, corona related or otherwise) - Callous dismissal of workers using performance as justification (despite no previous warnings) - Unpleasant working hours (can be working anytime Mon-Sat 9 am - 10 pm)

Pros

- possibility to work from home

Cons

- if you criticize things, they might cancel your contract - in the last few month a lot of employees got fired - a lot of overtime (there is a law in germany that you are only allowed to work 10 hours but they will expect you to work more) - unfortunately no communication at all - no vision for the company (at least noone knows, because of misscommunication) - the job description had nothing to do with the actual job - basically they don´t know themselves what your work should look like - no management skills (you´ll never get any answer to your question, no time management) - a lot of employees are super unhappy with the management and the job but unfortunately they don´t want to hear critics - so all of the employees who criticized something got fired - the work is very boring, they don´t want to hear your ideas - the company says that it improves the health sector, but basically it is just about plastic/aesthetic surgery - I don´t know if it really improves something by giving ecxess to everyone to have a boob job in turkey or somewhere else - it has nothing to do with "real" medicine (morally questionable at least for me)

Qunomedical Response

Dear ex-colleague, we are sorry to read that you hold such negative feelings about the work at Qunomedical. While we do agree that there is room for improvement in flawless communication between the different departments on an operational level, and we are constantly working on it (as maybe every growing start-up is). We put a lot of effort into making all but confidential information accessible to everyone in the company, and I am sorry to hear that this was obviously not enough to give you a clear picture of what we are doing. Plastic surgery is one of multiple different treatments that we help patients all over the world to get, restoring their teeth which they cannot afford in their home country is another one on the B2C side. B2B wise, we provide a digital patient management system to hospitals and clinics, helping them to better interact with their patients. Apart from that, we do not terminate people because we don´t want to hear their critics, this would be a very poor business decision. Nor do we expect from people to work 10 hours a day, this would clearly be a case for you to address to the People team. I am really sorry that it did not work out for you, and I whished that you had adressed those issues earlier while you were still with us. I wish you all the best for your future endevours!
