Pros

Nice staff, decent working hours and no weekend work is required but optional. Small development skill tree, better than nothing.

Cons

Terrible attitude from management towards their staff. Salary is too low for what most departments are being offered. A lot of “departmental leads, team leads” are only in their position due to being there 10 years or so. No other real reason. Team leads abusing their position and treating staff like crap. Obvious favouritism across departments. Comparisons made between staff too often which is wrong. People are bullied but afraid to speak out incase little is done. Progression within departments is teased but very rarely followed through on. Staff turnover has been incredibly high in the past year with very little reaction from Higher management. Place will probably fold in about 2 years.

Pros

Flexible working hours, okay benefits.

Cons

When I started working here in 2018 Quotient was a company that cared about its employees. The consensus amongst those that work here now is that this is no longer the case. In mid-2019 there was a small restructuring (no job losses) in my department which included one senior manager creating a brand new small team. Positions within this team were limited and several candidates applied internally and were interviewed. I was one of the lucky people to be accepted. Or so I thought. The team was to be led by a senior scientist with two scientists beneath him (including me). The date for officially forming the team was pushed back and pushed back. When the senior scientist went on paternity leave, we were told that the team would form when he returned. When he returned we were told it would start in the new year. Roll on January 2020 and my first week back following Christmas and New Year. Monday: Business as usual. I have a meeting with a manager to discuss a course that I am going on. Tuesday: Meeting with the new team as everyone involved is expecting it to officially form very soon. A company-wide meeting announces another restructuring. Nobody beneath senior management knew that this was happening prior to this point. Everyone is made to clap while all of the senior managers give themselves promotions. Wednesday: Last-minute meeting to discuss the new restructuring in our department. The new team no longer exists as the senior manager in charge of it has been promoted. Everyone has been kept in the dark. At around 4pm I am taken out of the lab for an unscheduled meeting. In the room is the senior manager and the head of HR. I am told that I no longer have a place within the company. I am escorted to my desk to collect my belongings and I am escorted out of the building without being allowed to say goodbye to anybody. Several other people also lost their jobs that afternoon, all so the senior managers could afford their pay rises. The way that this was handled was degrading and highly unprofessional. Through lies and deceit, senior management made it clear to everyone that they do not care about anyone beneath them. TL;DR: I was expecting to start a brand new role at the beginning of the year and I got made redundant instead by the same senior manager who created the new role.

Pros

High turnover in R&D so lots of promotion opportunities. Worth questioning why there are always multiple R&D vacancies though. Lots and lots of very mediocre people within this company so it’s easy to shine. Most good ones get the right stuff on their CV then move on. Regular sightings of deer from the lab windows.

Cons

Scientific staff don’t get to work from home at all. The advertised ‘flexible working options’ are actually quite rigid. The truth gets diluted with each layer of management so executive management don’t really have a clue what’s going on at the coal face. Managers make promises to their bosses then throw tantrums when they’re told by their staff what they want isn’t remotely achieveable. Managers want to screen questions before whole department meetings. People with no relevant experience get promoted to management positions but don’t get any HR training so are blissfully ignorant when they violate employment policy on a regular basis. HR team turnover is high. Share price is in the toilet.

Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback with us. Following the pandemic, we developed a Remote Working Policy that promotes increased home working for employees where practically possible. We recognise that remote working can be a beneficial means of facilitating effective working whilst supporting employees work-life balance. However, given the nature of our business, not all roles can be efficiently and effective performed at home. With regards training, we do offer mandatory manager training sessions, but we do appreciate your feedback and will review our offering. We are always reflecting on the operations of our company and working on ways to improve. We value your insights, and we wish you well in your career.
