Was good then not so much

Pros

Benefits are good. Some fun and talented colleagues to work with, several undervalued (or maybe overqualified?). Got to work in central Amsterdam.

Cons

Management doesn't change much. Seniors lacked cooperation. Employees who've been around for years get spiteful, not fun to hear it and wonder why they stayed. Was feeling less comfortable and less friendly with cliques forming near the end.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We have work to do to improve our internal culture and we are embarking on that journey now. RIPE NCC colleagues have played a key role in identifying aspects of our organisation - including management - that must improve in order for us to move forward as a team. Your advice is sound. We need to work on being a more open, collaborative and communicative leadership team. By nature, career growth is more limited in a not-for-profit organisation than a for-profit company, but we need to ensure that there is still clear progression for staff while they're here. Good benefits, great location and interesting subject matter.

Cons

Some poor management and leadership. Lack of strategy and drive. It can be hard to grow in some teams. Internal politics aren’t really addressed

We also appreciate your feedback about management, leadership, and growth opportunities within our organisation. We are working on a Leadership programme which is focused on the development of our leadership roles. Also, by bringing more clarity on who is accountable for what in which role, we will able to overcome problems of the past. Based on the surveys we conducted regarding organisational changes and culture programmes, we already see a positive development towards the desired company culture. Many factors come into play by organisational/culture changes so it can take a while to reach the desired stage as a company. Pros

At least they seem to have a proactive HR team. The last reviews look like they have been asking employees to write nice reviews, hilarious.

Cons

Depending on which department you work in, you will have a good work and more opportunities, eg, they have a very strong comms department as their goal is focused about how the world see us and not about the quality of products we are offering. The engineering departments are not the internally valued ones: the teams are run by useless and incompetent managers. You will not have any professional development, they say they are working on it, but this is not true, some managers are so arrogant and self-centered and incompetents that they are not interested on people developing. And although HR knows the situation, they doesn't want to be involved on any issue, abuse or problem is happening in there. And in general, be careful in this organisation because as soon as you get distracted there will be a knife in your back.

Our employees are important and our goal is to be a great place to work for all our colleagues. We do acknowledge there is room for improvement, we are currently working on multiple projects to reach our goal and improve our feedback culture. When an employee is unhappy about a certain situation or a manager he or she can always approach HR or our external trust person. Together with the employee we will look for the right approach.
