Pros

Wind/ Renewable energy is sexy. Sounds cool when you tell people where you work, especially in a place like Austin/Round Rock. There were some great people working here. In-house materials testing lab was admirable. If you have the technical background and could make it into the office doing design work it would be an awesome job.

Cons

Worked field construction inspection and testing summer 2012. It was hard work but fairly compensated. Worked geotechnical boring in 2013 and they worked me to death while on salary. We're talking dusk til dawn and then some in heat, cold, wind, mud, doing the work of at least two people. It was enough to break anyone. In-house geotechnical engineering of everything from all over the continent may have been overreaching. Hauling so much rock and dirt back to RR from all over the continent seemed a little silly. Could be totally different now. Middle managers all on profit sharing and year end bonuses which means they have nothing but dollar signs in their eyes all the time. They make silly mistakes and try to make it up by working staff below them to the bone.

Pros

Decent per diem for leads. Below average for technicians. Decent benefits Light physical workload

Cons

High turnover rate. Vehicle downtime=no work Only time you hear from management is when you’re doing something wrong. Get used to being taken advantage of. PTO is awarded but most of the time denied by management. Truck allowance is minimal. Expect 60-100k miles a year on personal vehicle. Starting pay is not great. No reimbursement for vehicle maintenance although 99% of it is due to work travel. Management and other branches of RRC are non-inclusive toward CMT employees. Little to no growth. Will not let you transfer to other company departments who have better career situations for employees.
