Pros

Overall the people I work with day-to-day are kind and want the best for everyone, but the poor firm management makes everything harder than it needs to be. The Minneapolis office is an okay place to work if you don’t have other options and find yourself in one of the better studios. Target and NDT appear to have more positive cultures than the firm as a whole; consider avoiding the corporate studio if you’re a woman.

Cons

The CEO and Board are obstinate and seemingly uninterested in truly advancing design, sustainability, equity, or innovation in the firm. Team members and their leaders are often micromanaged and unsupported. Consequences and accountability are avoided like the plague. HR does little more than manage basic benefits and fails to provide staff support or paths for professional development, even when safety concerns are reported.

Pros

There are a lot of great people who genuinely care about the work they do.

Cons

Designers are not well paid. Despite an attempt to rebrand as a design firm, Lower level employees are not shown they are valued. There is an old guard of principals (of which there are too many) who resist change. Many upper level principals are misogynistic. Very little racial diversity, very little diversity of any kind in management.

Pros

Beautiful building. ***Unfortunately that is the only "Pros" I have but need at least a minimum of 5 words... This should do.

Cons

Management didn't have clear communication, lacked leadership and was always in meetings. Even though I met really great and talented people in other departments, this was one of the WORST internship experience. I was left in silos doing work that wasn't meaningful (for example always sourcing stuff on Amazon and clean up templates or made them look "pretty") and that's when my internship experience started to sour pretty quickly. A lot of my skills weren't able to shine interning there because I was doing menial work. I felt that management was really protective of their work and didn't allow me to really explore different types of work. This place lacks diversity and I didn't feel like I belonged. No one should feel that way in an organization and if you do, leave. The meaningful lesson I've learned from this experience was recognizing poor leadership and poor organization culture. Thanks RSP!
