      Pros

      Lots of autonomy, especially as a senior staff member, to pursue things that are interesting, as long as someone outside BBN will pay for it. There are some brilliant people and some very exciting projects to work on.

      Cons

      Leadership is... vague at best. The deeply embedded sink-or-swim culture can be brutal at times. The constant grind for funding means lots of pressure on the small cadre of people who write proposals. Some perverse incentives cause weird competition and anti-social behavior.
