Great people, terrible leadership

Pros

As an employee-owned company, Radiance attracts talented, driven, and highly cooperative people. The majority of people throughout the organization are deeply devoted to working hard and helping their coworkers whenever possible. The company offers great health and retirement benefits.

Cons

The senior leadership of Radiance is highly toxic. The CEO in particular works diligently to create and maintain a culture of fear, acquiescence, and lack of professional boundaries. Dissenting opinions are met with swift punitive measures, public humiliation, or termination. The attrition rate at the senior management and executive level is exceptionally high. During my time at Radiance, such senior leaders would be working one day and gone the next. No warning, no explanation provided to their teams, much less the company at large. This occurred with 6 different senior or C-suite positions in less than two years. This toxic atmosphere springs primarily from the long-time CEO who regularly gives talks to the company about values, care for employees, and "doing what is right". Behind closed doors, however, he acts in a consistent opposition to the stated company values. Hostile to differing opinions, verbally combative and unprofessional, and heavily self-focused, he communicates with his actions that his priorities are profit over people, and control over collaboration.

No progression path

Pros

Good benefits (health insurance) Small company if you like that

Cons

Don't care about employees unless you are management or one going into management. No progression path for engineer(if you want a promotion you will NOT get one here) Really think of all employees as expendable and replaceable unless you have something special on your resume they want to use to get contracts Let top talent leave because they have no idea what you do don't care what you do, (just shut up do work go away) Management has no idea what you are doing don't check on anything don't care just want work done. They have horrible managers. Want you to choose work over family. They will get angry and give no raises and bad reviews if you do choose your family. Want you to work on your own time for no pay. Again will get angry if you don't and no raises and bad reviews. Allow some to get away with doing nothing. Why even have a purchaser if they don't do anything except swipe a credit card a child could do that.

No long career here.

Pros

Benefits are better than most companies, but not the best. Some people get a nice office.

Cons

This was a great company when the original President was there, but they kicked him out eventually. Don't expect this to be a long time career unless you become a part of the favored clique. Employees come and go - there's a reason they say it's a growing company; they lay off and then hire more. This may be a good job if you produce software or analysis, but if you design things that must be built, don't expect a long career here. Upper management seems to want work that is simple to manage without the problems that occur when producing products. As said in other reviews, the hiring/promotion of family members occurs a lot, and they stay while others are laid off. Expect to find your own work by writing proposals on your own time. Company contribution to 401k varies at times and sometimes is given in Radiance stock, which dropped a lot to buy out original President when he was pushed out. Too many Vice Presidents for a company this small and certainly no need for assistant Vice Presidents.
