Relaxed atmosphere whilst a managed hotel, however locally based superiors should not show favouritism to certain employees.

Pros

- fun industry - hotel discounts

Cons

Until December 2016, the corporate office (Carlson Hotels) was a family-owned, local, privately-held company with 75 years of history and an amazing culture of hard-working, dedicated, loyal, life-long employees. At purchase, HNA leadership immediately began wearing away at the former culture (cutting employee awards, Values Day, annual charitable giving campaigns, etc.) and in November 2017 began multiple rounds of heavy layoffs of all senior leaders and entire departments. Now the decision makers sit in Brussels with a CEO that uses “gut instinct” vs. analytics to drive business initiatives and US employees just carry out orders. Do your research into HNA and their business practices. Talk to current HQ employees that have been there longer than a year. If you do decide to leave your current job for an opportunity here, be smart and know what you're walking into -– and be ok with the fact that the company or your position might not be there long. I'm relieved to be gone as the company was a shell of its former self, devoid of culture, with no opportunity for innovation, no care for its employees (which shows in the work environment) and none of the increased business investments that were promoted to all stakeholders as the main benefit of new ownership. Curt Carlson, the founder of Carlson Hotels, is rolling in his grave.
