Pros

* The technologies are fun to support * The impact on the world * The pace of life versus a city in the USA * If you're going to get laid off this is the place to come and hide * Get to work with some Australians with no formal education or training * Fun to vacation in Australia but due to how short staffed the program is it is difficult to get time off

Cons

* If you've invested a significant amount of time and money getting an engineering degree the Raytheon contracts should be avoided in Alice Springs because your skills will erode * Horrible communication from management to the employees (the maintenance manager never shows up for a meeting he schedules with his people) * Management treats the employees as expendable * Several years into the contract the roles and responsibilities are still not clearly defined * Promotions are done via the "Good ole' boys club" * Management create jobs with a "title" to create the illusion that there is advancement. They are looking for a mule to do the work that they don't understand. There is no promotion or pay raise that goes with these jobs...but s/he gets a "title" * Non existent pay raises * High turnover rate so there are no domain experts who can train new hires

Pros

Never had a security clearance prior to this job. The company extended an offer that included getting a TS/SCI + CI poly. The salary was 30k less than I was currently earning, but due to the location overseas, the total COLA + Bonus actually improved my take home by about $5k.

Cons

The overseas location for the job is horrid. The program I joined is basically a maintenance only contract that requires little actual skill in my field of expertise. I started in Feb and got my first raise in about 14 months, even if it was all of 2%. That was actually better than some on the project who received 0. Moral is low due to the way the bid and won the current contract.

Pros

* There will be significant changes at the management level * Enterprise integration which is supported by the government agencies * Opportunity to network various development programs in the USA * Opportunity to travel around Australasia part of the world * Intricate technologies * Teams will get smaller over the next couple of years

Cons

* Base housing, furniture, and utilities that are currently provided to people who PCS to Alice Springs are going away starting March/April/May. This means you will have to find a house in town, work with the property mgmt company and coordinate the details. Along with taking care of utilities. All of these require an Australian bank account. Alice Springs is isolated in the middle of Australia so there are no other small towns as options to live in. There are a few rental properties but no one knows if the stipend provided by the U.S. government will cover rent and utilities. Be very cautious moving your family across the planet to this remote location. Especially now that base housing will not be provided to PCSers. * Triton management is weak. They only care about body count. They refuse to tell people who are thinking about moving their families across the planet that they might not have a house when they arrive in Alice Springs. And, that they don't know how much of a stipend will be provided for housing when they do get here
