I worked with a great team of people who were very skilled at their jobs and were always willing to help out if I had a question. When I was there the health insurance package was one of the best I've ever had.

Cons

Interdepartmental communication was terrible and often I had to be the one to go to several departments to find a solution to a problem. I worked there 8 years and received two raises the whole time one of which I asked for.

Impossible situation, but management fails to adapt

Pros

Journalism is a rewarding and sometimes fun job, and this is an interesting, diverse community for it. Management and coworkers are easygoing enough.

Cons

It's a newspaper so staff is small and pay is awful. Benefits aren't great either. But to make matters worse, management has been there forever and insists on covering the community like the resources haven't changed and with a print-first mentality. As such, get ready to work lots of weekends and holidays for no particular reason and cover nothing stories just so there's something to fill a page.
