Pros

WHEN READING THROUGH THE OTHER REVIEWS ON GLASSDOOR FOR READING ROOM AS AN EMPLOYER: Please take into account that for the majority of these reviews- Reading Room executive staff "asked" (by which I mean, required) current staff to write a positive review of the company. These reviews are monitored by the executive staff- and it wouldn't be hard for them to work out who wrote what. So- take everything you see here with a grain of salt. These are NOT impartial, unbiased reviews- they ARE, however, a requirement for continued semi-happy employment at Reading Room.

Cons

An inhospitable, unfriendly place to work with little to no support, terrible wages and management with an extreme chip on their shoulders.

Pros

Some of my peers were very motivated and produced great work

Cons

miscommunications from management often (always) led to problems constantly having to spin the story to clients attitude of "we do it better so don't challenge our process" This is just the tip of the iceberg. The interview process was short but LONG delays from acceptance of position until start-date (2.5 months). Alarm bells should have rung at this stage. Started in the position but without any former job description, after asking for a month it was finally produced 9 weeks after my original start date. There were gross inconsistencies within that document as to who I report to and to what extent my role enables me to perform my duties (looked like a copy paste job from Head office). No training or guidance in this period. I requested weekly reviews on my work, this happened for 2 or 3 weeks then ignored. The last review at the 3 week mark I was told that "we actually need to see if your position is viable". What?! Shouldn't you have worked that out before I left my job and accepted the position?? I also was excluded from many meetings / client interactions for no reason. As the decision seem to have been made shortly after my hiring, I felt that this was most unprofessional.

Pros

It is a fast paced and buzzy atmosphere. If you like to keep busy and prefer an environment where you have lots of variety you will be in the right place. Coffee machine and ping pong yes, but it is the people who make the place special.

Cons

Not for the faint hearted and you do need to bring something to the mix. There is no free ride and for sure there are easier ways to land a pay packet.
