The worst place I ever worked

Pros

A lot of the team are nice, and the new office space was a big improvement on the dreadful place before. Noone really talks to each other though and the atmosphere became very weird.

Cons

Pay is terrible. New staff get more, but they don't reward current staff for good work. If you've been at the company for years, good luck ever getting a pay rise. That only happens when you say you;re going to leave. They lie to clients all the time to win work. The management is really really grim and toxic. The founders put on a show about caring about staff, and pretend to be in the world to do good, but it's just a sham to win work. Staff are treated really badly. They do a song and dance about equality and caring about equal pay and setting up various groups or committees for this and that, but strong and talented people were forced out - especially other women. They lost a load of good staff a while ago which led to other good staff leaving. Then the work went downhill, and with them having no desire to fix the actual issues (the bosses and some of the team leads - they are easy to spot because they all look the same), there was no point in me staying either. Leaving was the best decision I ever made.

Just awful

Pros

Not much to recommend any more. Some of the team are really nice and you can make friends.

Cons

Some of the worst management I've ever seen. Massive egos and they claim to be in it all to "do good" but treat staff very poorly. Never listen to criticism and if you have a gripe they push it back on us all. All the good ones have been pushed out so I left too. Sinking ship. Give you free ice cream but the minimum sick pay, holidays and other rights you would expect from a "good" company. Women treated poorly in terms of salary and other things. We're all getting bolder at speaking up now (but should not have to) so hopefully this will be better. Management care about how they "look" at least so that might lead to change

Thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear that you’ve had a negative experience :-(. We take feedback seriously and are always wanting to get better. We wanted to give a bit of an update into our current ways of working so you can see how we’re addressing some of the areas you’ve mentioned. People are the reason we do the work we do. We regularly encourage honest and anonymous feedback from our staff which we use to shape the way we work. Hive surveys go out to staff on a regular basis to gather insight on how our teams are experiencing their role, workload, managers and what improvements they would like to see. We are actually in the process of introducing a new way of communicating to ensure feedback is encouraged and listened to from all angles, and levels of course! We need to make sure that feedback is being used in the best way so we’ve been working on an organisational learning and development plan. We always try to create an environment where people are comfortable speaking out and feel that their input is required and can effect change at Reason. We want our team to push themselves so we always encourage them to use training opportunities that will aid personal development. We provide each team member with a £1000 annual training budget. That said, we know it’s not all about training so we also look at health and wellbeing opportunities for our staff. Weekly yoga sessions, talks around mental health issues and a cycle to work scheme are just a few of the initiatives available. We are a small organisation (around 40 people) and operate as a social enterprise. Although we would love to be able to, this sometimes means that it is unsustainable to match the offers of large corporates in regards to holiday and sick pay. We offer 6 days paid sick leave and a standard holiday allowance of 20 days plus bank holidays. We know there’s room for improvement and we’ve taken feedback onboard and around a year ago, introduced a salary sacrifice scheme allowing staff to purchase 5 days of extra holiday. We also think it’s important to focus on work/life balance for our team by offering flexible working and the ability to work from home. It’s within our company DNA to support those who experience discrimination or prejudice. Supporting those who identify as women is just one part of this. We recently completed our own gender pay gap analysis which shows that women are actually paid slightly more than men within Reason Digital. However we know it doesn’t stop here. We’ve created a Women’s Leadership Group which meets on a monthly basis. It’s open to all and helps to ensure that women are heard on topics such as policies, organisational changes and development issues. Everything is work in progress but we feel we’re taking the right steps. We believe our team to be a group of passionate and talented individuals who are integral in helping us grow and improve every day.
