Not a good company to work for

Pros

People are constantly getting fired or quit. So you can move up quickly for all of the wrong reasons.

Cons

Claim to value employees, but do not respect employees at all. The executives and anyone higher up constantly abuse their power and talk down/bully anyone underneath them. Also, they play favorites/politics. The company has around 80% turnover and, the only thing I saw "upper management" do to change this was give everyone a chance to get discounted pet insurance.

Thank you for your feedback. While the percentage you provided does not match our historical turnover data, we do appreciate the team members you mentioned that continuously step up to ensure Reed is continuously innovating and elevating the construction industry. To make sure that everyone has a voice in improving organizational issues, we have implemented mandatory quarterly departmental strategic planning sessions. These sessions have not only given a voice to each employee but ensures that they are able to support Reed in achieving major company goals. We would love to hear more about the details of your experience in order to continue providing an innovative environment that fosters professional growth. If you have a few minutes and would be willing to discuss this in more detail, please reach out to PeopleExperience@reedcorp.com.

Black Mold Level Toxic

Pros

Co-worker therapy. Since the majority of people are looking to leave the company, there are a lot of people to talk to about the large range of emotions people are experiencing.

Cons

They sell you on a position and once on board change direction on you. If you push back or voice your opinion, the owner says you are not a cultural fit per their EOS management system. Yes, the company is literally run from the chapters of a book and you can not deviate. How can you claim to a be nimble and flexible company when you can't even have a meeting with a co-worker or ask a question to a superior outside of a scheduled weekly meeting. Companies should not be run this way. You can not trust leadership, the president or the chatty admins who "report" to the president on when people come/go and what people say in the office. It's actually laugh out loud sad.

Reed has a long, proud 129-year history as a General Contractor in Chicago and has adapted countless times to changing markets and circumstances over the last century. Reed's implementation of the Entrepreneurial Operation System (EOS) is a tool that supplements Reed's strong history of management and leadership in the construction industry and is used flexibly by management to ensure that regular streams of communication are open within and among teams. At Reed, we value open and honest communication, and EOS has never been used as the only means of communication, we always encourage informal and regular communication as well. Unfortunately, it sounds like Reed was not a cultural fit for you, however, we wish you all the best in your career.

Pros

There is no oversight from the office. You have free reign to do as you will. This can also be viewed as a con given your comfort level with taking a lead role.

Cons

Upper management has forgotten or never known how to build. Field supervision has become inundated with paperwork and the reduction in self perform has left the Field staff spread too thin and it seems like no one at the office gives a crap.

Thank you for your feedback. While we are happy to hear about your sense of autonomy while working at Reed Construction, we are disappointed to hear about your negative experience. We understand the importance of our field team members and strive to ensure they are constantly reminded of the immense value they bring to the project site and company. For the past few years, we have implemented "Field Team Leaders" to help ensure feedback from our field staff regarding updated processes, new systems, and team capacity is being proactively communicated. We would love to hear more about the details of your experience in order to continue providing support and guidance to our field team. If you have a few minutes and would be willing to discuss this in more detail, please reach out to PeopleExperience@reedcorp.com.
