Pros

The people I work with generally seem like they really care and try to do the best job they can within the Regions culture. I have had several friends that have had family members come here after serious accidents or illness and they felt like they got excellent care.

Cons

Ineffective managers that are more interested in squeezing the last penny out of burnt out employees than actually managing (doesn't that involve people skills). The lowest common denominator is the measuring stick - many employees would be fired if actually held accountable to meet their job description. Those of us that do work hard are discouraged, non-listened-to, unrewarded, and when review time comes around - trivial things are used to point out that lack of perfection is going to keep salary increases to a minimum.

Pros

- Get to see what people with a mental disorder(s) act and behave like in-person. - Obtained resources for recommendations.

Cons

- Despite having "mental health" in the job title, this job entails NO mental health work at all. Even though we are exposed to numerous disorders, we do not get to interact with them psychologically. Worked for a year now, and I haven't utilized anything from college, nor have I learned anything new in terms of psychopathology. This job focuses more on the nursing/physical care-giving role and none on mental health. - Going off from the first point, the daily duties basically required as an MHA: take vital signs, serve food, take glucose readings, do housekeeping work (cleaning, making beds, doing laundry, taking out trash, etc), bathroom assistance, and checking in patient's belongings... no mental health duties whatsoever. A bachelor's degree should not be required in order to perform such basic and mundane tasks. - Odd hours and required bi-weekends, which is not worth the small pay that is given. - Depending on which floor you will be placed on, majority of the co-workers are nurses, which a handful can be conceited and demanding. There is a sense of social rankings with MHA's being the subordinate.

Pros

There are no pros to working here. I have been miserable since my second week.

Cons

The in-patient pharmacy is extremely understaffed, which means they expect you to work mandatory overtime. You never come into a shift knowing if you will be mandated or not. Poor supervisory staff, can’t fill positions and don’t appreciate the staff the do have. I have walked past my supervisor in the hallway 4 times in the last two weeks with ZERO acknowledgment, let alone a smile and nod. Little to no training in my department. At a good thing I was knowledgeable about pharmacy before I started working here because they didn’t even have a training schedule for me for my first two weeks. And they didn’t have enough staff to train me even if they would have had a training schedule ready. I was pretty much just thrown in on my first day of work. After all expenses such as parking fees and union fees are taken out of my pay check, I net less per pay period than I was expecting, these fees were not mentioned to me either. I was told negotiating was not allowed.
