Pros

A shot at getting into a good paying industry. Learning a variety of niche trades within one segment of elevator industry. The upside of traveling while working. If you are asked to be a "Lead Installer," and you care, there are tons of life lessons you get the hard way (I call that a good thing for a young man). 5% matching 401K, and a reasonable health insurance benefit. Working with your hands and dealing with all kinds of customers. Instant gratification in a job well done each week.

Cons

You will be out of town nearly constantly. You will not know until the end of week 1 where you are going for week 2. Planning any personal time is extremely difficult. Political. Most of the shop does not have respect for the installers. Parts are often made wrong... because the survey was not accurately taken, the shop made it wrong, or engineering dept got it wrong... no business like this is immune to these problems, but this could be mitigated better. Insane amount of turnover. If you are asked to be a "Lead Installer," and you care, there are tons of life lessons you get the hard way (Depends on you, but I call it a good thing for a young man). The level of workmanship expected from installers is very high, but with the turnover being so high, most of the lead installers don't even have the skills they need to show the new guy. The pressure is pretty intense. You'll get home late most Fridays and you'll have to spend half of Saturday or Sunday getting ready to go back out of town on Monday. Having to shack up with some loser and listen to his BS sob story while joined at the hip for a week. Watch out for the occasional seedy hotel stay (not usually bad, but if it was, I'd call it in and get a less seedy place to stay) Good guys quit and the losers linger on.
