Awful place. They seem like a fun family but really strive to strip you of your joy during your time here.
Absolutely no guidance about expectations. So admin will tell you to do something, you’ll ask how, they’ll say “oh however”, so you do it “however” only for them to come back around and tell you “that’s not how we wanted it done” all while never telling you HOW they wanted “it” done.
If you belong to or respect women or anyone who falls into the LGBTQ+ category leave now. I’ve worked traditionally misogynistic jobs before but nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, compares to the blatant sexism and homophobia I witnessed here. I was sexually harassed and had my sanity questioned and was asked to be nicer to my harasser so he wouldn’t feel “alienated”. Let that sink in for a moment.
Anderson will tout how it’s ok that teachers get paid less due to breaks and then EXPECTS you to stay late or work over breaks. At the end of the year address he mentioned how “ the job doesn’t end when the school day does”. If that’s true, why are you paying some of your staff $12.50 an hour? Teachers had to do tons of curriculum planning all summer so you could barely take a summer job to make up for your paltry pay.
If you haven’t gathered, it’s extremely toxic. The school is equivalent to the really beautiful popular kid who mercilessly bullied you in high school. Shiny on the surface, completely immoral under the skin. Which is ironic considering the school cares so much about “character”. They can’t even practice what they preach.
Poor pay, terrible benefits, worthless admin, blatant sexism and homophobia, I mean, if you’re desperate for a job go work literally anything else. A manager at Taco Bell makes significantly more than an elementary teacher and is definitely way more respected.
