Sad that management don't ever want to chance

Pros

Nothing really to comment, it's pretty dismal. I guess you get parking...

Cons

Throughout my tenure and clearly since leaving it is evident that Ridgeway has never and will never change, Their management consists of 2 individuals who will never ever give up control, a third individual who won't ever stand up to anyone and seemingly a fourth that I'm not sure what their role is. I'm not sure why anyone would want to work in such a narcissistic environment, and the 2 individuals who are causing the downfall really need to look at themselves and the mess they've created, and work out how to take the company forward.

Pros

Ridgeway's team has grown in the past few months, with a focus on R+D into new operational tools, spearheaded by the new Head of Operations who joined recently. Streamlining internal tooling has really improved the teams daily activities and efficiency. Being in a new role to the business to support the existing team focus on new product development, investing time into technical process improvements and widening the range of products being developed is really exciting. Time is being invested in both new .NET Core platforms and Headless solutions using React UI technology - its a really positive time to be part of the team. Several of the back-end team are working towards their Azure exams and very committed to soaking up new skills. I have learnt an incredible amount about Azure in the time I have been part of the team who are clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the technology. I can see huge scope for career progression. Loads of the team have been in the company for years and years, moving into new jobs within their departments to grow with the business which is positive to see. Its a really nice office to work in, with a supportive and collaborative team working together. Most of the team prefer to be in the office with each other which creates a creative and driven team focussed atmosphere. Pay increases have been wide spread and generous to help with the ongoing cost of living crisis which has really helped everyone. Private medical has also been a blessing as well.

Cons

Still a relatively small team for the type of work being undertaken and therefore can get busy often. Agency life and client budget restraints can feel restrictive and reduce the delivery scope, but the work delivered is always top-notch quality! Recently experienced a couple of bad hires which temporarily unbalanced the team with it being quite a small company.

Pros

Pretty area Some nice team members

Cons

I feel during my tenure, there are a lot of areas which need addressing. Off the bat, is the unsavoury comments about team members, from members of SMT who should know better. This has an incredible effect on morale, confidence and self worth across the board. Unless you’re a developer, you are not provided any options for learning or upskilling. The number one challenge is completing work to someone else’s very very high standards, which often feel impossible. There is a huge disconnection in the team. Which is very disappointing. Ridgeway has many talented and incredible team members. Who really do not receive the recognition and respect they deserve. Whilst other members receive a lot of recognition, and it is not always deserved.

Thank you for your review. Regarding the instance(s) you mention, without context or your period of tenure it’s not possible for us to comment on the specifics, however we take such concerns very seriously and have policies to provide clear escalation routes. Clearly, we would not condone such comments, which conflict with our core values. We have structured feedback mechanisms in place, and frameworks for managing communication and ensuring behavioural responses are managed effectively, such as the OARBED model and our internal Foundation Framework. In addition, for many years we have monthly employee peer awards, and all comments are shared with individuals which is always well-received, as well as highlighting the positive efforts across the team in weekly company meetings. This has high engagement from across the entire agency, and members of the team in all areas are recognised and respected for their dedication, quality of delivery, as well as for supporting others. Whilst it can be difficult to maintain a ‘one team’ dynamic within a group, the culture and team ethic is currently very strong, and there is huge respect within the team for others and their talents – noted by yourself too. Outside of developer training, we also have mechanisms in place for training and upskilling in other areas including supporting ACCA finance qualifications, SCRUM certification, and mental health first aid training, as well as many areas to upskill using the CMS platforms we work with. Multiple members of the team have excelled and been promoted multiple times, within and across departments. We deliver high-quality complex digital solutions, and recognise the need for diligence, a consistent and well-defined process, clear tasks, and excellent communication to ensure successful outcomes. This comes hand in hand with the requirement for very high standards to ensure our clients receive the high quality they expect (on time, on budget, on scope), and all our excellent team are justifiably proud of the work delivered. I’m sorry if you felt it impossible on occasion to meet the high standards required. Working within a digital agency is not for everyone, as it does require a very high degree of output quality, in often tight timescales, and so regardless of the plethora of documentation, videos, and peer support it doesn’t always work out despite everyone’s best efforts and intentions. We wish you all the best for your future career. If you would like to have a further confidential discussion regarding your comments, please email hr@ridgeway.com, or contact me (the MD) directly.
