Great people, dog friendly, free lunches, great view,

Cons

Fake culture, good old boys club, CEO is a chauvinistic jerk, they have laid off people every year to try to scramble to show investors they might be more profitable

Pros

- Nice location across from the beach in Kirkland - Many of the current employees are quality, intelligent people that are easy to work with. - Little micro management - Decent work life balance - Pet friendly office - Unique industry with unique challenges - Many unique and intelligent thinkers that are amazing to learn from

Cons

- Nepotism runs rampant at all levels of the company. Most predominantly within the executive team. - Complete lack of transparency despite that being one of the core values of the company and being preached as a high level of importance by the executive team - An aura of misdirection, dishonesty and spin permeating from the executive team directed towards their staff. - Lack of communication between teams within the company. Groups do not have any insight into what each other are doing and in some cases members of teams lack communication between them - A focus on individual Business groups rather than a focus on overall company success - An environment of registrar vs registry which creates an awkward and unhealthy work environment - Half-hearted attempts at building team culture through guilt or forced team participation. Those not participating are viewed as being not bought in to the success of the company or team - A total lack of understanding by upper and middle management as to what their individual team members are doing/responsible for. - Disregard for work that is not highly visible and able to be showcased by upper management. The dirty jobs that need to get done are overlook and those that do them go overlooked. - Lack of career advancement beyond middle management. All higher level director and above positions are filled from outside despite a number of qualified, motivated, hardworking internal candidates. - An attitude of negativity exists towards certain parts of the business creating a difficult work environment. This attitude coming from the highest levels of the company creating an environment of us vs them. - Focus on short term wins rather than long term and sustainable business initiatives. - Lack of resources, prioritization, and focus for key backend departments and business segments. - Inexperienced executive team - It is clear there is a problem when free lunches, location, and “beer Fridays’ are highlighted in recruiting to try and entice employees rather than a focus on business aspects and career advancement.

Time to Reevaluate

Pros

Showed some indication of wanting to become strategic and mature technically, but now seem to be back pedaling. Periodic free lunch in office.

Cons

Company has struggled since its split from Demand Media. Poor choices to lead a new and public company, starting with CEO and continuing with those he put in place around him who also seem lost in this industry and at this level.... they now all appear to reinforce each other's delusions at the detriment of the company. Backward technically and showing signs they're committed to that for the long term. Stagnation is rewarded, desire for improvement is penalized. Not the place for someone in a thriving technology market who wants to grow, make a difference and be treated like a valued employee. Not surprising the strongest employees are looking to leave.
