Pros

Only adding this to bypass 5 word minimum.

Cons

Toxic environment. Criminally low pay, laughable “raises”. Turnover is high. Micro aggressions including cursing and racist remarks out loud in the office, totally audible to everyone including students - go unchecked. Nepotism rampant. University policies claiming “cura personalis” care for the whole person - is a joke. For example, no pay for a holiday If you take off or god forbid are sick the work day before or after. Old furniture, facilities, and ways of doing things. Processes are outdated and inefficient and only a couple people know the ins and outs and that’s only because they’ve stayed long enough. So disorganized for the amount of tuition they charge students. Constant game of hot potato with coworkers - the responsibility is constantly shoved back to you (even when it’s not your job/place) or to the student instead of helping them.

Pros

-There are a lot of holidays off and these are paid for many staff -There is an excellent coffee shop in the vicinity -Timing in is accomplish via an app -The university has taken the Covid pandemic seriously -There are lots of opportunities to be on committees if you're into that sort of thing

Cons

-No one communicates here-seriously. Employees are simultaneously told not to check e-mail off the clock and expected to somehow have a sense of the shitstorm they're like to walk into on their next shift. -It's virtually impossible to connect with other employees. Many are set in their ways and use "tradition" as an excuse not to update policies and practices. -There is one gentleman in particular who is obviously on the spectrum somewhere, which would not be an issue if it didn't interfere with his doing his job in every sense of the world. He refuses to touch or handle anything, will not eat around others, sequesters himself in his office. He adopts an authoritarian tone and creates a toxic work environment. -There is no coverage if you have to call in. None. Salaried staff are coming in at the moment. -The pay isn't really that great for what the job so often entails -Security presence is spotty and the person who works the 4-midnight shift does so alone. God help them if something happens. Security may or may not respond. It's probably better to call the police directly.
