Pros
Good schedule 4 days a week. Low to no accountability. Problems are swept under rug so it is low stress. Except for if there are money problems, you can expect a 2-3% raise every year automatically. Employer is accommodating of schedule conflicts, extended time off or out.
Cons
The IT dept is toxic. The are no rules or boundaries, you’ll have no idea if you’re doing a good job. The person who runs IT is not interested in effective management of IT resources. You will struggle to maintain IT relevancy. The people in charge of IT are also paranoid of being usurped, so you will struggle to access the resources you need to do your job - they’ll do it for you. You won’t be allowed to work advanced projects for the same paranoia, and can expect your IT supervisor to downplay or negate any good work you do. If you make too many suggestions, you will be seen as the enemy.
