Pros

- Focussed on training, team unity and pair programming - If you get a dedicated mentor who gives you lots of time and is honest with you on where to grow, you can be very successful in becoming a talented software developer - Craftsmanship academy is a great intro to development.

Cons

- Low pay for juniors - Previous experience not valued - Value calculated on a standard set that doesn't include all work done as a developer - If your skillset is different than a typical full-stack (knows backend, knows decent front end, knows some design), your compensation is unlikely to be as high. - Entering the craftsmanship academy if you have already developed or gone to Comp Sci is 75% stuff you know, 25% you don't.

Pros

The company is generally very interested in developing the talent of their employees. They are exceptionally transparent with the operation of the business. The politics of the workplace are fairly minimal and all levels of management are highly approachable and distinctly interested in a transparent and honest relationship. I have never felt that management was lying, manipulating, or deceiving me which makes the day to day significantly less stressful than other places I have worked. They are honest, will do right by you, and are genuinely interested in doing right by clients. They put significant time, effort, and money into developing new talent with minimal preexisting skillsets which is generally rare in the software industry. Most other companies want an entry level developer to have 3 years of experience which is an oxymoronic specification. RoleModel takes devs with aptitude and trains them with a solid foundation in OO design and a test driven approach to writing software. They are generally great teachers and all of my coworkers have been very nice people that are always open to teaching and sharing knowledge. I am grateful for the opportunity to work at RoleModel. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work for RoleModel.

Cons

The pay and benefits are at the lower end of the tech industry. The company seems to get distracted with pet projects that have not conclusively shown to break even let alone profit based on the developer time invested. The sales and marketing appear to have significantly improved in the last year but prior to 2020 there was significant concern for the viability of the company based on past sales and marketing failures.
