Pros

The office is in a great location; close to all the major luxury goods retailers Most staff are really lovey, switched on and resilient It felt great to work for an iconic company with such a rich history Varied job description allowed me to get involved in lots of different and exciting things

Cons

Micro-management by certain leaders really soured my experience. This created a sense of fear and paranoia around the office. Staff were not empowered or trusted to make any kind of decision on their own accord- everything had to be approved and closely monitored. Every minute was watched- if you’re late to work by three minutes, you stay back by exactly three minutes. Toilet and tea breaks could only be taken if someone was available to cover them. Some staff were clearly stressed, bullied, overworked and unhappy however the attitude by senior management to sweep these symptoms under the rug raised questions of integrity. Indulgent Senior management team prefer to focus on participating in corporate entertainment rather than get to know their people or see how they can assist to drive greater growth. Extremely high staff turnover- one department had a new person in every 2-3 months over the course of 2 years due to bullying, excessive pressure/ unrealistic demands

Pros

A prestigious brand. Varied and interesting work. The majority of colleagues were great to work with. Great location of office.

Cons

Never in my entire career has my integrity been questioned like it was at Rolex Australia. There was severe micro-management and a lack of trust from Senior Management. During my time, there was a huge staff turnover in certain teams because staff felt unhappy and intimidated - and their concerns were not taken seriously when addressed to management. Everyone felt as though they weren't trusted.

Pros

Half of the people who work there are lovely and some of the nicest people you’ll meet, the other half have huge egos and are some of the most shallow you’ll meet

Cons

I was at Rolex Australia for a few years and I could write a book about the place. You come into the company with such optimism, grateful to work for such a prestigious brand. As time goes on, the cracks start to show and the insidious truth about the company culture reveals itself. I’ve never seen so much turnover at a company. The people who decide to stay at Rolex are unhappy, but they don’t leave, because the company puts up a facade of being a great place to work and makes you feel disposable, fearful about never finding a “great” job like the one you have. To survive at Rolex, you need a huge ego. The people who are down to earth have their souls killed and they eventually leave. Oh and when you leave, you will be treated like a traitor for wanting better for yourself. The amount of money made by the company is enough to feed a country, yet they give the bare minimum to their staff. A small fruit box for the office was the one perk they offered. Pay is low, and once again you accept this because you are made to feel replaceable. Don’t get me started on the management. The disparity between what the general manager is paid and what the rest of the staff are paid is enough to make you feel ill. They turn a blind eye to bullying, despite many complaints being made about certain managers. People who have left Rolex still have PTSD after working there. I was personally disappointed by my direct manager, who acted like everyone’s best friend but was willing to throw you under the bus when she needed to. I am so much happier since leaving Rolex, I only wish I had done it sooner.
