Pros

Good coffee, fellow baristas were nice.

Cons

Insecure job, very poor training, favoritism, poor pay, absolutely no contracts to guarantee your pay, no benefits, no standard procedures regarding tardiness/write-ups/call outs/etc, poor communication. Employees would be fired or have their jobs threatened for things that other coworkers would get away with constantly. Managers picked their favorites and only ever tried to accommodate them. Management would rather cut your hours down to one partial shift a week than accommodate your otherwise spacious schedule. It’s difficult to remain cheery in a customer service job when the company cares so little about you.

Hi! We are extremely disappointed to read this. We have almost 200 team members, many who've been with Rook for several years. Comments like this are hurtful to our livelihoods and we take them very personally. We love our team members, we love our customers, and we work our best to run a fair business that makes people happy...the ultimate Rook goal. We value feedback, and we are very open to hearing more about the experiences that have led you to leave this review. Pros

Free coffee until you get bored of the same stuff and go to Starbucks. Encouraged to drink at company events without much regard for who or how much is consumed.

Cons

On the surface it’s a nice attempt to govern themselves. However the longer you stick around the more it becomes a decent into savagery. No work life balance. Store managers tired their best to handle Covid situations but upper management did offer much help it seemed. Will only give raises when the government makes them. There are employees who have been there 2-3 years making the same as employees who have been there 2-3 months.

Hello. We are extremely disappointed to read this. We have almost 200 team members, many who have been with Rook for years and comments like this are hurtful to their livelihoods so we take them very personally. We love our team members, we love our customers, and we work our hardest to run a fair business that makes people happy...the ultimate Rook goal. As a company, we certainly understand and promote the importance of a work-life balance and try to provide all of our teams with the necessary tools to be able to implement comfortable and convenient scheduling. In addition, we continue to strive to maintain a positive working environment by actively checking in with all of our locations and planning employee outings, events, and additional job perks. With regard to your comments on COVID protocols, compensation, and company events, we find these to be quite inaccurate and lacking context. Our reaction to the handling of COVID remained in accordance with Federal, State and local guidance at all times to promote the safety and wellbeing of all staff and guests. We also continue to provide at-least annual performance reviews and pay increases based on performance, even taking into account the rising costs of inflation. Lastly, while alcoholic beverages are provided in limited quantities at some company events, they are monitored to ensure only employees 21+ are consuming and drinks are limited to two per employee. As a growing company, we value feedback and constant communication, and we are very open to hearing more about the experiences that have led you to leave this review. Please reach out to support@rookcoffee.com so we can better understand the nature of your feedback.

30 minute breaks on 12 hour shifts, excessive firing, unorganized management, infrequent raises. Unnecessarily stressful environment.

We're sorry to hear that these were takeaways from your time on our team. Please know that we have many measures in place that intend to do deliver an experience to our stores teams that's quite different from your feedback. For example, we only schedule shifts 4-7 hours long at the maximum. In terms of terminations and management, we strive to keep open lines of communication with frequent 1:1 store manager check-ins with teams and quarterly feedback sessions and surveys to ensure store-level feedback can be addressed by management as necessary. If you'd like to share more feedback from your specific experiences, you can reach out to people@rookcoffee.com at any time!
