Pros

Royal is a family owned and operated company. They offer some PTO, and cover health insurance like many companies in the Bay Area. They donate to good causes like Grounds for Change and the ACLU.

Cons

Management lacks formal training and previous job experience, so onboarding and employee training is minimal. The company has had very low turnover because most were hired in a time when employees stayed at their jobs for life. While this can be a positive, this generational gap led to a lack of innovation, adaptation to any SCA standards, or system implementation to promote efficiency. Likewise, there are no career paths for employees looking to grow into specialized roles. In the end, it was an issue of cultural and work flow incompatibility for me. I do not recommend working here if your experience is in the 3rd wave scene or working for young innovative companies. I wish I knew beforehand, which is why I am writing this review.

Pros

Excellent coffee, didn't have to wake up early

Cons

Management had a punitive attitude toward employees. No one clearly in charge of our department leading to tension and conflict. Expectations constantly shifted, including whether we had to work weekends, many job duties, and what educational opportunities were available. Holidays were cut. Pay increases were very low. Constant drama, inter-employee conflict, and gaslighting from management. Poorly maintained equipment, despite all appearances. Poor training for new employees. High employee turnover. A hostile CEO.

Pros

tips, lots of down time, short shifts, nice customers, great training, flexible schedule. Good for someone going to school. Coworkers would be close and like family, and have occasional get togethers.

Cons

They pretty much only hire young people which is fine for me, but you have to deal with many coworkers who have never worked a job before. Owners would make menu changes with short notice. Would be out of stock a lot of the time.
