YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK HERE

Pros

In the past, I could give many positive reasons to work here. But that has all changed in the last couple of years.

Cons

New management came in, and they have removed those with experience and brought in their friends. Sadly, as the unexperienced come in, they are paid much more than those who built the company. That would be fine if their strategy worked, but, the result is sales continue to decline. This company will probably not be around within 3 years. Much money is wasted on a marketing team that does nothing to drive sales. They do not provide support and within the last 2-3 years have played a major role in driving the company into the ground. The National Accounts team is doomed. The new team that has been brought portrays an arrogant attitude, with no experience in this industry. This attitude comes across with other departments, as well as with customers. The field sales division is what makes the company run and makes it profitable, but corporate continues to make cuts and offer no assistance. The field sales team cannot get new machines and service of stores is being extended. As a result, what is left in the stores for customers to rent is an assortment of old and dirty machines. (And they wonder why sales are down.) What used to be an amazing company to work for has turned into a disastrous mess. I don't know why the owners are allowing it to continue. You will not be happy working at Rug Doctor! I would give them a zero, if I could. Also, most of the positive reviews are coming from their new management, trying to portray a positive perception of the company. My statements may seem harsh, but they are not made out of anger, but out of honesty.

Thank you for your review. Change is never easy. It’s true, we’ve made some leadership changes in the last year. But the outcome of these changes will be a smaller, nimbler, more profitable Rug Doctor, better equipped to innovate as fast as our customers and our industry require. We are intensifying our efforts on our core business and redeploying resources to our most urgent priorities. These changes are good for all of our team members – not just a few at the top. We wish you the best of luck in your future.

A blockbuster brand, literally.

Pros

If you're NOT a fan of accountability or you LIKE to lose, this is definitely the place for you. The CEO knows everything. Don't believe me? Just ask him. He's not only the captain of all know-it-alls, but he has a masters in "how to lead when nobody wants to follow you." I want to be the first to point out that the impossible is, in fact, possible here. Where else can mediocre managers, who lack the necessary skills to lead business units and companies, jump directly to a C-level role overnight? Here, that's where! We're talking about un-promotable managers rejected by their previous employers climbing the corporate ladder and ultimately reaching unimaginable and truly unrealistic pinnacles in their careers in a blink of an eye. After all, America is the land of opportunity.

Cons

Sales have been constantly declining for nearly a decade. There's more turnover in the marketing and sales department than our products in stores. I'm not sure what's flatter? Our innovation curve or the backside of SpongeBob SquarePants. It's hard to keep up with the Joneses when you have insignificant funds to reinvest and execute at a snail's pace. Not to worry though, Rug Doctor will eventually etch its place in iconic brand lore with the likes of Blockbuster, Blackberry, Polaroid, and MySpace. Morale is terrible. It's been terrible since I've been here and continues to get worse almost everyday. HR keeps coming out with new incentives for employees but it isn't helping. If I'm being honest, you'd be hard pressed to find someone here who loves their job. Well I can probably think of one.

Great Work/Life Balance

Pros

I love working and enjoy my job and coworkers. Of course, my first love is my child! My manager has been great in working with me so I don't have to miss any "first" milestones. As long as I get my work done and maintain the quality of my work, I have flexibility for a great work/life balance.

Cons

Some tools/technology are a little dated, but those issues are being addressed and the company is moving forward.

Thank you for your ongoing contribution and feedback. We don’t want any Rug Doctor team member to ever have to choose between work or family; we work to live, not the other way around. (It's Lego Land this Friday for me!) I’m proud of the support Rug Doctor shows to the people who make it great. Amy Howell, General Counsel
