Pros

Great benefits. Great salary. Owner is sincere and truly cares about every employee. Upper management is tough but always pushing the company forward to keep us on the cutting edge of the industry. Employee owned (ESOP proves to be fruitful year after year).

Cons

50-60 hours a week. Mandatory weekend hours. Job can be very stressful and dangerous. For pruning department we are so co-dependent that factions are often created between tree pruners, shrub pruners, consulting arborists and support staff.

Pros

The people here are all driven and great to work with. Benefits are above average for the industry and Larry Ryan truly cares about his employees. Doing what is right for the customer is typically the primary goal. The company is also very fiscally responsible.

Cons

Who is in charge of what, here? Organization of departments is confusing. Somehow, we've managed to create a flat organizational chart, like a modern start-up, without actually empowering the employees. Quality of communication depends on who you are friends with. Also, the focus on the pointless metric of "hours worked" is absurd, especially in an industry where EFFICIENCY and attention to detail should be rewarded.

Pros

Benefits including an ESOP, fully vested after 6 years President/Founder invested in company's success Great co-workers It's a smaller company, and very agile. There is not a lot of red tape to get in the way of trying new things.

Cons

Career paths are not clearly defined, so it's difficult to figure out how to move up in the company. There is definitely a Ryan Lawn & Tree 'type' and it can be hard if you don't fit the mold.
