Pros

The benefit package for a salaried employee is decent. There is promise of paid vacation and end-of-year bonuses if you can make it that long. Plenty of autonomy but (see below).

Cons

Don't count on any form of quality training or break-in period. Employees are more or less just thrown out there and expected to perform. Training is often given in person by the owner in the form of ridicule and belittlement. Take the clue in the interview when you meet him. It only gets worse. The average lifespan of an employee while I was there was 3 months.

Poor Management!

Pros

If you want to be treated like a human being, look elsewhere.

Cons

The owner is disrespectful and hostile to employees, no matter what position you have. The owner will personally attack you. The owner will belittle you even prior to listening to your questions or concerns. The current claims management will not train you nor will they stand up for you when the owner becomes hostile and the owner will dismiss any poor behavior by current management. The owner thinks that all employees are exempt yet he will ask you to make up for the time, not all employees are exempt and should be paid for their overtime! There are no breaks allowed either! He constantly lies to his clients when there are no qualified claims analyst because he fires them within 3 to 6 months!

Pros

Co-Workers! They are smart, competent, kind, and fun to work with

Cons

The owner Anwar Hafeez! He used to have a business that probably was relevant many years ago but because he continues to use the same old materials people do not want to pay the high price to attend his seminars. Potential attendees ask if he has updated the material and he lies to them to try and get them to pay an excessive fee to attend a seminar they attended previously and would learn nothing new by attending again. He micro manages his staff and treats the office manager terribly. She is a very nice, hard working woman. He over charges his clients and the claims he has been preparing recently have been denied by the contractors they were brought against stating they are "without merit" leaving the clients he prepared the claims for in a worse financial situation than they were in before. He convinces his clients that they have valid claims and that he can get them the monies they are owed and more. These clients are beyond angry. It goes without saying that his "great " seminars and his "great" negotiating skills are anything but. He says his employees are exempt but by labor law they are not. The only exempt employee is him. He will have you work overtime and not pay you for it because he says you are exempt. He currently has Labor Board cases against him because of his tactics. If you are considering a job at SDC & Associates rest assured it is the biggest mistake of your professional career you will make. Do not waste your time or gas driving to an interview. Go where you won't be threatened or have to work in a hostile work environment.
