Extremely disorganized and lacks structure

Pros

Pay is decent. Benefits are good.

Cons

Everyone tries to step all over each other. People are extremely unfriendly. There's a lot of favoritism towards people who have been with the firm for a while, which is understandable, but in a lot of cases, these people don't always have the best qualifications. Management keeps promoting individuals who have no experience and lack leadership skills. At the end of the day you get a lot of bossy folks running the show which just creates an extremely unpleasant work atmosphere.

Pros

SERA's best strength is a culture that values the sustainability of the built environment, the Portland locale, and bicycling to work. Many of the people were great to interact with. Individual empowerment to effect change was idealized.

Cons

Management is not skilled at leadership and nor are they pulling together to achieve a common vision. The subdivision of the company into studios led to rivalries, cliques, and boundaries between groups. IT was unnecessarily complex and difficult to navigate. Currently the company is going through an identity crisis: high design or analytical architecture.

Pros

Super cool new office building with state of the art furniture, computer systems, and kegerators. The employees tend to be talented professionals.

Cons

Had to layoff over 60 employees in less than one year due to over-investing in office space that is now severely oversized for the number of employees left at the firm. Entirely too dependent on a singular tech client, and has no plan in place to find new work elsewhere. The pay is well below average and raises will be mitigated by the salary cuts they implement to stay afloat.
