Pros

Experience in city government, lots of opportunities to network, collaboration

Cons

3 year contract with no guarantee for a promotion, long interview process up to a few months. While I was there, there was a huge turn around of managers and other employees

Pros

Great teams, Everyone is supportive of you and wants to help you grow and learn. It is a great starting point, but senior staff are very adamant on staying and there's not much room for growth, While the 99 series are the most diverse group in the department, they also get paid the lowest. How does that work for equity?

Cons

I could not have said it better than a previous review written on here, so I'm just going to bump it up so everyone can see it: "Despite paying lip service to environmental justice and equity, SFE employs very few underrepresented people of color in positions other than the Environment Now job training program and low-paid "Public Service Aide" positions. Senior staff, which a few years ago were almost all older white men, have merely been replaced by middle-aged white women (with the exception of two Indian women) under the new director."

Pros

Mission driven agency with passionate, smart staff. Strong equity focus.

Cons

Bureaucracy can be challenging and current mayor is not as supportive of environmental causes as she could be.
