Pros

When quarantine hit, they still paid us for 2 weeks worth of previously scheduled classes, which I was very grateful for. We were then rehired back on as W2 employees vs independent contractors. Pay is standard per class in NYC -- it's not amazing, but it's not as low as some studios. It's possible to get a rate increase when you get an annual class review, but you have to genuinely care about teaching a good class and stick to their specific style and standards. If you need to take time off, they will find subs for you if you put in your sub requests on time. There are tons of opportunities to make more money by picking up classes to sub, since there are so many studios. They don't bother you about petty things that don't matter, and you don't feel micromanaged. Although there is a specific way of teaching and you have to follow certain sequencing rules, you are encouraged to be yourself and show your personality. Training is a long process, but they give you a lot of "hand-holding" so you never feel lost or like no one cares about how you develop as an instructor, which is important b/c it's a hard method to learn to teach. Improved leadership after quarantine. They seem to care about making it a better place to work.

Cons

The sound system in their studios isn't the best. The mics either sound muffled or have an echo in most studios. When you bring this up or clients complain, it gets brushed off. Low morale among instructors that have been there the longest, which can create a toxic environment. These instructors also seem to get away with things newer instructors don't. Training is unpaid. It can take a while to get the class blocks that you want, so when you are new you have to take what you can get and work your way up (but this is pretty standard in fitness).
