Pros

There are good employees who genuinely care and believe in supporting our members.

Cons

Toxic work culture, even in a remote work environment. Turnover has been a major issue due to poor leadership not addressing issues or personnel who are causing undue stress to their employees. HR is not effective and has no real meaning or value in the organization and covers up issues presented to them indefinitely or at least for as long as they can until there is drastic pressure or other outside intervention.

Pros

Love the people that I’m working with Opportunity for business partnering On site gym 35 hour work week (but you will be chastised on this) Flexible hours

Cons

-Very political -Work from home is reduced/gone -Used to be a 4 day work week all year long, now it’s only for select few months -Social events are dwindling -Some departments are dreary -Some (finance) have a lot of nasty talks happening behind closed doors including name calling for people who are not present (how are you doing this as a leader??). Leadership is fairly incompetent and rely on just getting “yes people” to do whatever they are told so they aren’t looking for talent that will innovate processes. -Bolding, rounding numbers and font size is more important than being results driven -Hiring friends are director levels and ignoring their incompetence -HR doesn’t understand benefit policies and conflicts what the insurance provider says You really need to know more? It’s a good time to get out and bad time to get in. Wait until senior leadership changes for their to be change.

Pros

Good gym, some company events

Cons

Avoid if possible - for the credentials they are seeking to work in the finance department, you will be able to find a company that has much better management, more interesting work, and less chaotic data and systems. If you truly want to work at SOCAN in an acccounting/finance capacity, consider operational audit which has a great and intelligent director and manager (but unfortunately under the same CFO). People are generally nice at SOCAN, but it's an archaic management style. Upper finance management do not have their CPA designation and seem to lack knowledge that a CPA should have. They try to remedy this by hiring talent below, which results in high turnaround for managers (there have been three managers in the past two years) because they are overworked and undersupported. The lack of support appears to be due to incompetence, not due to constrained resources. The age of the finance team is generally older, and tends to be less progressive. The younger staff are generally unhappy as a result, which causes a high turnaround of good talent.
