Pros

Staff at ground level are the lifeblood and go out of their way to get the job done. If you want to do very little as a snr manager or above then this is the place for you. Doesn't require anyone to come into the office which was great, even after lockdown, a zero day requirement to attend the office. Never much action for the directors, just lots of 'working groups' to discuss a project to death without actually doing anything. Colleagues were lovely.

Cons

Management, senior management, directors, recruitment (is a joke due to its incompetent leadership), salary (unless you are a director). Housing has been sold off at ridiculously low prices, then again if you inherit and don't actually buy them in the first place then why would they care. CEO is actually decent but is led by finance team and HR, both of these have very little interest in actually serving the beneficiaries always focusing on just the bottom line, and they are ruthless when it comes to getting rid of you . Has an extortionate amount of funds in its reserves but is constantly cutting costs and still expects the same delivery of services. Doesn't require anyone to come into the office which was great, even after lockdown, a zero day requirement to attend the office. Colleagues who got paid for a 7.5hr day yet work less than 3.5hrs, all from home because they can. Its a bit of a joke really because there are people who really care in the services they provide yet they are the worst paid, do the most work and most overlooked by the organisation. Trustees are so devoid of what SSAFA actually does, most are there just to get a to get an honour from the palace. As for progressing your career, forget it. Come in, get a couple of years experience and then leave because none of the snr managers or directors will promote anyone within because they are looking after #1. If you do get the opportunity (you won't) you have to go through the recruitment process all over again, unless of course you are in HR, or at director level in which case its just a cosy little chat, job title change and big bump in pay !

Pros

Most of the people were really lovely, good location, interesting work.

Cons

Unsurprisingly, there is an old fashioned culture at SSAFA. Very hierarchical, with some people behaving as if they were still in the military. Lots of internal politics.

Directors hate each other, loads of infighting, difficult culture to get anything done.
