Pros

Potential to work on great deals with senior bankers with a wide variety of styles and MOs. Senior bankers can see what juniors are doing - opportunity to stand out (for good or bad). Mostly thoughtful staffing decisions.

Cons

A little light on back-office infrastructure and benefits compared to a bulge bracket or elite boutique. Wide variety of MD styles and MOs creates risk of getting stuck with the wrong one. Choppy growth. Buy-side recruiting is possible but needs to be managed very carefully depending on your situation.

Boutique bank, without the boutique benefits

Pros

Small teams, chance to work intimately on deals with senior bankers and corporate team

Cons

As crappy hours as any high-prestige bank, but without the pay. Unfortunately, when you're at a small bank like this, they take the baseline and always round down, especially as the senior bankers fail to produce.

Pros

Not as insane as other shops, not as many sociopaths as I've heard there could be. Good enough name and experience to learn finance skills and do an analyst program out of school

Cons

Do not have enough rain makers to support steady deal flow. Results in volatility of experience, constant pitching/profiles, analyst class animosity instead of camraderie and first-years getting fired when that was so unfair
