Communication from head office filters don from multiple sources often having to be amended as inaccuracies/faults are reported, e.g. being told to prep for a half-term sale/promo when the half-term is on different dates and when informing HQ the response is "well a certain lady
is taking her children on holiday so it must be half-term"
Further to that, when info is coming from multiple sources, it isn't always easy to see when it gets posted as not all comms are sent by email AND via Workplace(Facebook for work- anyone who has used Facebook knows how frustrating it can be when posts 'disappear') and with lone working this can often mean that some info is missed leading to confusion and multiple queries from store level back to HQ.
I understand that at present lone working is deemed to be a necessary evil. We are asked not to do do tasks between 11 and 4, those hours happen to coincide with the time a 2nd member of staff would be in to cover the traditional busier trading periods and lunch break cover, this means all stock processing, checking deliveries etc is done by 1 member of staff. What amounts to many small stock takes weekly, undertaken by a single member of staff is inefficient and stock inaccuracies WILL occur, especially with the delivery note system currently in use. This system of operation is also open to abuse-what point is there in having a Bag Search policy when staff are frequently lone working and can 'decide' what came in on any given delivery?
For quite some time when a member of staff takes holiday the store gets less than 50% of the hours taken to cover that member of staff. This means that when a manager is away another member of staff steps up to assume that role, it's duties and responsibilities without extra pay or training but also having to lone work more than usual! This feels like some kind of punishment, and is massively detrimental to morale.
Supposedly feedback is encouraged, the reality however is that unless the feedback is wholly positive then it is absolutely not welcome. Occasionally multiple stores were asked in phone calls to provide something positive to post on the Workplace site in an effort to appear like one happy family. In wartime this is known as propaganda, nowadays Fake News.
