Not a great place to work

Pros

Friendly coworkers, decent pay, remote work.

Cons

I don't think there was a single week I worked for Saltwater that I didn't clock well over the 32h I was scheduled for. 10-20+ hrs extra every week, voluntarily & including weekends, to help the company out of the severe backlog they were in when i was hired. In fact, the day I was fired I had just recovered from a 10 day bout with pneumonia where I worked from home and did not take a single day off. According to the owner Christopher Griffon, I was let go because I was late to start work 2 or 3 times during my time here & he was unhappy with the speed at which i conpleted projects. It should be noted that I was hired as a general expert without direct experience in the system the company uses to create websites, and so by definition they were willing initially to work with me as I attempted to quickly get acclimated. I was never given any indication or warning that the few times i was tardy might jeopardize my job and i had only a singular meeting with Grif a few weeks prior to my termination where he told me that he was unhappy with the speed of my work, but I had thought I'd corrected the problem and ibwas expressly told at that time 'it was a learning experience' and my job was secure. I did not receive any indication, good or bad, after that meeting as to whether things were on track moving forward until after my termination. I have been a SWE for 10 years, and consider myself a fast learner, but the company has unrealistic expectations and it seems that most would be doomed to fail working here unless they are already familiar with their system (which Is unlikely as it is not popular at all and lacks documentation) I'll conclude by pointing out that I feel strongly i was taken advantage of, as I was hired on as a full time employee and the week the backlog was essentially clear i was fired. I believe that I was hired effectively as a temporary contract worker and the 'tardy' & 'slow' issues were exaggerated.

There are some very fair criticisms mentioned, our formal training in some areas can always use improvement. We have a very distinct team here and it's not for everyone. When it gets busy communication can suffer. These are truths we constantly try and improve upon. But we also have a counter-corporate philosophy that rewards individuals with a strong desire for self-management, teamwork and project ownership, on good days that means we have happy team of people in charge of their own work and proud of it, on other days it means we have folks that were hoping for a workplace with more direct guidance. We are a company where the owners are in the trenches owning tasks as well, and that can take away from our direct support and communication temporarily. We strive to avoid situations where an employee's expectations are this far off from our culture, and truly appreciate our coworkers that find our mix to be challenging in a positive way overall. This review reminds us that we can do more to help others acclimate better.

Caddy, petty, clueless

Pros

Flexible schedule and unlimited PTO. Some fantastic folks who have been there a while.

Cons

I find leadership, for the most part, to be petty. Some of them are even incredibly immature and wouldn’t make it far anywhere else because larger businesses would see right through them, chew them up, and spit them out. Egotistical and self absorbed. Pay is not competitive.
