Fake it till you make it

Pros

The space is hot and the initial idea of what the company was built for is good. ACR technology embedded within TVs has a high barrier to entry and the initial efforts to get this going has kept them going this far. Providing actual consumer value to get opt-in is also the right direction.

Cons

Executives take the "fake it till you make it" attitude too far and compromise on product quality without a vision on how the company can actually make it. People in the company are not held accountable to clear success metrics, so people do not deliver on their promises. There is no focus on what the company is trying to move towards and all work is only for the moment. No clear long term goals and career growth path.

Be part of small circle or better get out early

Pros

Free lunch every Wed. Dinner credits and Lyft credits if work late. Convenient location from Caltrain. Occasional happy hour. Annual offsite and various team building.

Cons

Friend and family in the leadership circle has been biggest issue of this company just like other reviews said. Intention to break untouchable circle for better process/solution is waste of time. Good place for graduate to start career but not for veteran. No real product planning. Lack of feature QA causes endless last minute bandage and low quality delivery. OKR perf review is kind of joke here. Displaying peer compliments doesn’t solve low perf and org inefficiency issue. A culture to yell on slack but not proactively get right people in the room to fix issue. Early employees who were promoted manager really need in-depth management skill training.

Thank you for your feedback. We are always striving to create the type of culture where employees feel compelled to share actionable feedback about the company directly with the management team. Good processes and practices are a necessary part of this and our intention is to continuously evaluate, implement and adapt our processes as the business requires it. To that end, in March, we are implementing a new system to facilitate direct, honest and actionable feedback from our employees, so we can build and support the type of culture that will fuel employee happiness and our success. We are also moving forward with a new performance management tool in March, which will provide the flexibility necessary to support the variety of ways people manage and track goals and performance. We want Samba TV to be an environment where talented, unique and committed individuals can thrive, and we want to do everything we can to develop and retain this most valuable part of our business. I invite you to share your suggestions with your manager or the executive team.

Appearances can be deceiving

Pros

We talk a lot of TV in the office and the work space is nice. There's free snacks and quick meals and catered lunch on some days. The company is growing.

Cons

Hours are long -- but many people don't arrive until 10-11. Management plays favorites - some people are untouchable because they're family or friends and there is definitely a feeling of a 'boy's club.'
