Keep Looking - Don't Bother

Pros

Hybrid was great. Food was brought in from time to time. Employee recognition events.

Cons

When I first joined the team, I had a positive outlook and would do anything to support the company. The company seemed to be getting great projects and the forecast looked bright. After the New Year, everything changed and they seemed to be losing money or trying to protect what they had. Cutbacks were swift and people were starting to be let go. Kept hearing that “business was not profitable”, so more layoffs. CEO acts personable but lacks real connections and is too close to the day-to-day. Was totally blind-sided to my layoff. No real transparency in the organization. They talk a big story about culture and values, but it’s all a façade. For such a small company, they really don’t know what they want to be. It’s a shame because there are really talented and smart people there, and upper management doesn’t have a clue on how to keep this business thriving.

Multiple layoffs this year

Pros

Nice coworkers and nice building.

Cons

In 2023 Sambatek had 3 rounds off layoffs, and every time management says we have gone through this before and survived. That may be true for the bosses and CEO but for the staff it's not helpful. Everyone they've fired this year probably didn't feel like they've survived. After each layoff they saywe are done with cuts then a few months later they cut more people. Recently they cut people in one department while hiring for the same positions in another department. I'm not sure if management knows how bad this makes the company look but most employees think the CEO is only out for himself. Other companies in Minnesota are not having multiple cuts in one year. We're told we're building a good culture but they pivot in random directions based on the news of the day. Sambatek bought a company a year ago while the home office is not growing. Many of us see this as supporting new people at the expense of the old people. Like they want the acquisition to work so badly or owe so much money because of this they'll fire people at the home office to prove what a good purchase they made. The first chance I have to leave I am gone...along with about 75% of the remaining staff that aren't owners.

Pros

Overall office vibe is positive and friendly, flexible work hours and location, OT pay is nice, newer office building with fun amenities.

Cons

No on boarding process or CAD training for new employees to speak of - they try to recruit employees from other companies who have been trained well by their previous company rather than spend the time training their own new employees. CAD standards need a lot of help as well. Without proper training and mentoring there is not much opportunity for entry level staff to move to management level. Some upper management are difficult to work with and they fight over the top talented staff to try to boost their end of year bonus. Staff turnover is rampant (can’t blame them for leaving) and makes it tough on everybody to build a team environment.
