Women, stay away!

Pros

Some good people work there but they are not in management.

Cons

Young males reign supreme followed by all other males. No female over 35 should stay with this company. Upper management has no idea how facilities outside New Albany are treating long term female employees!

Pros

The pros are very good pros. But unfortunately do not make up for the cons. A/C. Benefits. Decent retirement. You can listen to music. Bathroom breaks whenever basically.

Cons

The freedom you have comes at a cost. I’ve watched for years as people are bullied and harassed. If you bring it to their attention, their HR will empathize with you and make you feel you understood, but then nothing will happen. Managers are very bad at playing both sides. They do not know how to lead. They use fear and punishment to motivate. They will make sexual jokes. I’ve heard racist jokes. Jokes about women’s body parts from them as well. Little of this has been directed towards me because I’m friendly to them out of fear, but seeing it happen day in and day out is disgusting to me. They do NOT deserve a 3.7 rating. Those high scores HAVE to be recruiters trying to boost this score. But like I stated, the pros are great if you can keep to yourself. Just do not let them convince you a good workplace exists there. If you want leadership and teamwork, look somewhere else. Benefits are not worth the respect you will lose for yourself by sitting by and watching these things happen.

Fantastic Benefits but a family run insular company

Pros

Samtec's benefits, especially health benefits were the richest I've ever had in my 20 years of experience. On compensation, they have a unique profit sharing model that will turn off some, but apples to apples comparisons of my salary + bonus was commiserate with my previous employers. I can see how folks who stay long term where the misalignment of salary can accrue over longer periods of time, but that problem is not unique to Samtec, and doesn't really affect new hires. Samtec is a service driven culture that breeds folks that love their company and work very hard. In IT focused organization, they were willing to spend money on tooling (although the lack of overall planning made this somewhat of a wash.)

Cons

Family run business -- business decisions revolve around people, and more than a few folks are 'sacred' ie they continue to make poor decisions that not only waste company money, but provide a huge opportunity cost to progress in ways that the company needs to move. The only reasons those folks continue to exist is due to nepotism, or loyalty to those who've been there for a long time. Maybe that is great for those that work at Samtec long term, but I'd argue if you are an ambitious potential new employee, run very fast away from this company. Insularity -- from a business standpoint, the company continues to perform well, so it can be hard to transition from good to great. However, the biggest challenge the company faces is complacency, and the biggest sin they commit is insularity. This is true from an organizational standpoint, where in the white collar roles, there is such a huge amount of lack of coordination in any decision making, and information silos that lead to some pretty terrible decision making. However, the insularity runs deeper, and the primary reason for it is that there is a confusion about why the company has been successful, and what it will take to bring more success. The world has moved pretty significantly, and without new blood to move the company in a necessary direction, these problems will fester and kill the golden goose. Finally, every company has folks that are very two-faced, so Samtec is not unique in that regard. However, there are some deep integrity issues with a few folks in leadership that I would warn others that things don't appear as they seem. I experienced pretty extreme whiplash from folks who I thought of as deep mentors, who turned out to be in fact very terrible people.
